Follow these guidelines to ensure your QR codes scan reliably across all devices and print sizes.

Minimum Print Size

A QR code should be at least 2cm × 2cm (about 0.8 inch) when printed. For scanning distances over 1 meter, increase size proportionally — roughly 1cm of size per 10cm of viewing distance.

✓ Use 300 DPI resolution for print. Export as SVG for crisp scaling at any size.

Color Contrast

The QR code requires sufficient contrast between dark modules and light background. A contrast ratio of at least 4:1 is recommended. Avoid light-on-light or dark-on-dark combinations.

✓ Stick to dark foreground on light background. Inverted (light on dark) works if contrast is high.

Error Correction Level

Use Level L (7%) for clean digital display. Use Level M (15%) for standard print. Use Level Q or H (25–30%) if you plan to overlay a logo, sticker, or wear/damage is expected.

What Is a QR Code?

A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional matrix barcode that stores data as a pattern of black and white squares. Invented by Denso Wave in 1994 for tracking automotive parts, QR codes have become ubiquitous in marketing, payments, logistics, and everyday life. Unlike traditional 1D barcodes that store only 10–43 characters, QR codes can store up to 7,089 numeric characters, 4,296 alphanumeric characters, or 2,953 bytes of binary data — including full URLs, contact information, WiFi credentials, and more.

How QR Code Error Correction Works

QR codes use Reed-Solomon error correction, a mathematical technique that adds redundant data to the code so it can be reconstructed even when parts are damaged or obscured.
